Father Abraham

I don't know if any of you grew up singing and doing the actions to the 'Father Abraham' song in Sunday School (I personally loved it as a little kid), but that's what Payton was doing this afternoon for about 3 hours. She was wide awake and just moving her hands up and down and her feet kept kicking just like in the 'Father Abraham' song. I was just amazed that this little baby who has been on life support for 4 1/2 weeks was alert and just moving away. I had been telling her for the last day and a half that daddy was coming, and I think she just couldn't wait to see him like her mamma :). So she's still holding her own. Her surgeon popped in yesterday and said all we need now is a break from the Almighty. I continue to be amazed at how the Lord is sustaining her body and protecting her from infection. I know none of this is a guarantee for the future, but I'm grateful for His daily provision. Thanks for persevering with us in prayer. I was thinking this afternoon of all that needs to happen for us to make it out of these hospital doors (and even all that will have to happen after that), and it just totally overwhelmed me. So I had to stop thinking about it and go back to trusting Him for today. I've always loved Matthew 6:25-34 and Jesus' reminder that He knows our needs for each day. We're grateful for each day we have with our sweet girl.

We're packing our bags, filling the car, and leaving work early. Hope Payton is in a dancing mood for grandma.
Love you all. Tell Cafe Presto to get the tuna melts going and the onion rings frying - we'll see them this weekend. Or is it ribs for Aaron?

I loved that song, too. Except it made me a little dizzy toward the end with all of the turning around and moving your head up and down.

Love you guys.

Heather & Aaron,
What a great visual of Payton dancing around! Thanks for sharing that with us, and for continuing to update us. We continue to pray and to trust the Lord one day at a time. Hope you have a great weekend - know that we love you and are praying for you all!

Uh huh. Yes, Father Abraham. Loved that one. Especially the part that goes "...so let's just praise the Lord" at the top of your lungs and then you break into "right arm, left arm..."

Your thoughts in this post bless me.

Heather,

I keep missing you when I call Payton's room. I think of you guys often. It is so amazing to see God's strength in you. I feel like I have seen more of Him each time I read your blog. You are right to bring yourself back to today. I realize more and more that God loves us too much to give us the whole story. It reminds me of Corrie Timboom telling the story of her conversation with her father..." Corrie, when do I give you your ticket for the train?" "Right before we get on." God is the same with us. He gives us what we need when we need it. I pray that He will give you joy to somehow enjoy today with your daughter.

P.S. When you are done reading her the Little House books, maybe you could read Anne of Green Gables to her. :)

That's Awesome!!! What a cute picture of a sweet little girl kicking her legs to "Father Abraham." I'm so grateful that your eyes are fixed on Jesus and your perspective is eternal.

When God lays your family on my heart in prayer my heart aches and my tears fall. Yet, I know that He hurts much more than I (even more than you), bottling every tear you cry.

So glad to hear you smile and laugh, enjoying every moment you have. I wish we all lived like that...living each day to the fullest, enjoying every moment available, and completely focusing on our eternal Lord.

What an awesome sovereign God we have to give peace and joy to you in such an enormously difficult situation. You are such an encouragement to me. Thank you for showing me what truly loving Christ is all about. Thank you for showing me that no matter what the circumstances peace is available in the storm. His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Give Payton and extra smile and kiss for me. Thanks.

Love Always

How sweet to hear of how excited Payton was to see her daddy at the end of the week! Thank you for your honesty in the midst of the waiting... your faith, patience, and dependence upon our Father continue to challenge us. I think of you often, Heather, and we continue to come before the Almighty with you and for you guys every day. All our love to you!
