Out and In

Well, they removed Payton's breathing tube yesterday morning at about 9:30. They are currently reinserting it. She was doing pretty good but was working hard all day to breath with spurts of crying and restless sleep. The crying is actually good - it helps get some of that liquid and gunk worked out. However, this morning she still had a bit of fluid in her lungs and her right lung collapsed which forced her to work really hard to breath. They are reinserting the tube to reinflate that lung and to allow the nurses to again be able to suction out that liquid that's in there. They are also moving and changing some of her IV lines to prevent infection since some have been there about 12 days. It has been a stressful past day and a half for me. It's been hard to watch her work hard to breath and to see her cry really hard but have no sound come out (the breathing tube goes right by their voice box and leaves it very weak when the tube comes out). So hopefully in the next few days she'll get a bit stronger, and they'll try removing the tube again. We know these bumps in the road will come, but it's so hard when you have some good days in a row to again experience a set back. I know I was also getting my hopes up to hold her soon since that's supposed to happen some time after the tube comes out. Also, plastic surgery has been by to look at her neck. They are hoping at this point to not have to do a skin graph, but they need to wait and see how it heals to know for sure.
Also, as a side note, because of some confusion we wanted to let everyone know that the pictures on our blog were all taken before her heart operation.

Dear Aaron and Heather,

My name is Rachel and I work with Heahter's father in Rockford. I don't know if this is any help, but my son Jon who is being treated for Leukemia had a nasty skin burn from chemo much like Payton's site. They were concerned and prepared for the worst. However, two months later it is now well healed and almost gone.
I pray for you all everyday and know that this is really hard. Payton is blessed to have you two as parents. Rachel Wared

Hi Heather & Aaron,

We continue to pray for you 3 daily. I know how it feels to watch a baby cry and not hear anything. Isaiah went through that when he had his tracheostomy. It was painful to watch but now he's making up for it and is a very talkative 5 yr old! Hang in there! Better days are still ahead!

Hi Aaron and Heather-

So sorry to hear about the temporary setbacks. I continue to pray for Payton and the two of you. Keep up the super job you're doing as Payton's parents (sometimes being a parent is HARD WORK isn't it).
My love to you all,
Val

Aaron and Heather,
I would encourage you to take pictures of Payton even now. The day will come when you struggle to remember what all the "stuff" looked like, and that can stir up a whole new bunch of emotions.
I'm continuing to uphold you all in prayer.

Heather & Aaron,

There is nothing I can say that will make the disappointment of not being able to hold Payton better. But we will continue to pray for healing, with full faith that day will come, and that there are better days ahead.

We love you,
Karen & Brian Johnston

Hi Jones Family!

I just heard something on the radio that I found encouraging so I wanted to share it. It was regarding why God doesn't just take all the bad things away. The pastor said something like...Sometimes God calms the storm for His child and sometimes He calms His child in the midst of the storm.

What a reminder that He is here answering our prayers, even though things may not be going exactly as we would prefer! Your faith and trust in Him is a testimony to God's presence and His work in your life.

We love you!

We are sad to hear that the tube had to be put back in. The Lord has great things in store for all three of you. He puts these bumps in the road to test us. Trust me we had some with Connor and I thought we would never get over them. Keep your faith strong and remember we all love you guys and are praying fr you daily.
