Getting there...

Goodness it's been a month since I posted last.  We FINALLY have internet that is working inside our home which has been wonderful.  I'm catching up a little more on email (which, let's be honest, for anyone that knows me, email is not my strong point... at all).  We're able to look on the craigslist equivalent here to find furniture.  We can skype-call and pay bills in the states that have come due and were unpaid when we left.  It's been tremendously helpful.  And to be honest, we're really tired.  We are still feeling like we're in survival mode a bit, not quite as bad as at first, but we're still struggling to get everything done in a day and feel like we're treading water.  And it was just feeling like one thing after another was going wrong, not getting done, breaking, not working, or having big screaming fits (the 3 year old).  Things that individually you deal with but rolling one after another was getting overwhelming.  My head has hit the pillow every night at 11 or later, and I'm out cold.  But then we're up at 6 or 6:15 so we can skype-call the states or whatever else we need to try to tackle before the kids are up, and we're trying to get out the door by 8 to get Liv to school.  So in the midst of feeling overwhelmed, there's also been very kind times of experiencing the Lord's grace.

  • The furniture we do have has just fallen in our laps - most of it free.  We've got a love-seat and couch (the couch is coming, the love-seat is currently the only seat in our house - been eating on our tile floor) that were sold to us for $100 each, basically a steal because they're actually nice and of good quality and don't look like something from 1985.  We've been given 1 queen mattress, 1 queen mattress/boxspring, 2 end tables, a dresser, 3 lamps, a storage shelf, a refrigerator (on our 3rd, that's another story), and borrowing a washing machine.  I've just been in awe because I don't know that we've had the energy to actually search for furniture, and it's literally all just been offered to us.
  • I've felt incredible grace and peace in driving (it's driving on the other side of the car and other side of the road).  I was so nervous before we left, but I truly have felt so calm.  I know that's been from the Lord.  Now I'm driving quite a bit and doing pretty good.
  • We are so grateful for our home.  It's fairly new - built in the within the last couple years - so we have a dishwasher (!!!!) and air-conditioning units in both our living area and upstairs in our bedroom (rare to have more than 1 in a house).  We have a really good housing manager that's been so helpful and willing to take care of any problems quickly.
  • We've gotten Liv into a great school.  She's making friends and has some great teachers.  It's also right across the street from our church, and there's some fun connections between the two.
  • We really like our combined US/Aussie team.  They're a wonderful group, and we're enjoying our time with them.
So those are a few things we're so grateful for.  These last 6 weeks have been exhausting and quite stressful at times, but we've definitely seen the Lord's hand and provision.  And now I have to get back to looking for our 4th and hopefully final refrigerator!

Just received your newsletter. Glad to see that you are getting settled. Also happy to know that Tate is having the screaming fits and not you or Aaron.

We know that nothing can separate you from the love of God as you walk with Him.
