An "Adventurous" Trip

So I'll give you a little rundown of our trip down here to South Carolina, and you tell me if you can find the 'theme' of the trip :). On Wednesday the 21st we drove down to my home to stay overnight. At midnight I woke up to the sound of Liv throwing up in her pack-n-play. I was soon to be wearing our first experience with a puking child. She threw up a few times and then had dry heaves. It was so, so sad. It's just aweful to see such a little person throwing up and just doesn't know what to do with themselves. We woke up the next morning and Liv seemed a little better. We tried to just give her a little breakfast and she kept it down. She took a nap and then ate a little lunch and kept that down. In the midst of this we were trying to figure out if we were going to say at my home another day or try to keep going. I won't go into everything, but we decided to keep going since she seemed okay. So we left at 2 in the afternoon, and the baby slept the first few hours. She woke up not too happy, and shortly after totally puked in her carseat - not just a small amount, but out her nose too and it just went all over her and soaked down into her carseat. I just sat there for a second stunned and then tried to take the feeble napkins I had to start cleaning it up until we stopped soon after in an Arby's parking lot where we stripped her down and put clean clothes on her. We kept going and got to our hotel in Kentucky at 11:30. It's just such a place to be stuck - do you keep driving or wait it out in this random place. On Friday we drove from Kentucky to our friend's home in North Carolina. Liv was mellow (obviously) but seemed to be getting a little better. That night, Aaron wasn't feeling good, and at 12:30 a.m. I woke up to an aweful sound coming from the hallway. He had broken his 25 year streak of not throwing up with gusto!... all over our friends lovely carpet. The baby had woken up crying, and so I was trying to get her back to sleep while our wonderful friends cleaned up Aaron's 'episode.' Then I wasn't feeling so good and at 5 am made my own trip to the restroom - fortunately I made it just fine to the bathroom. On Saturday the 3 of us just kindof laid low at our friend's house. They were INCREDIBLY gracious to us, both about the carpet and about being a sack of potatoes. We had all prayed and are so grateful to report that the Lord protected them and they didn't get sick - really a miracle when you consider the load of germs we brought into their home. I felt like we should play the Chariots of Fire theme song as we finally pulled into North Myrtle Beach, SC on Sunday - we made it!!! Aaron and I were talking about how we'd describe the trip - aweful and horrid were 2 words that came up, but we both agreed that there were some really good things about the trip like driving through the mountains, seeing our friends that we hadn't seen in years, being together as a family... so there's our adventure. Hoping the trip home is less eventful :) One thing to say is that Liv is a TROOPER!!! She should've been screaming when her little behind hit the carseat by the end, but she wasn't. She did great! So now we definitely have a story of our first big road-trip as a family. We're just grateful none of us had to go to the doctor, and especially for Aaron and I, it was pretty short lived.

So now we've been here a week! We're settled in for the most part. This past week it was just us staff getting ready to have the students come. It's a fun group we get to work with, and we're enjoying it. The students got here today - there's 63. So now we dive in! I'm really sorry I haven't gotten pictures up in awhile. As soon as I download them from my camera I'll post them. So we'll continue to keep you posted on our adventures and misadventures :). Again, Kevin and Alli, thanks for your kindness to us! Love, the Joneses :)

Glad to hear you made it. I got to talk to your mom yesterday at Teara's shower and she filled us in on your trip. Yikes!!! That's really terrible, but I'm glad you made it and all feel better. I'll give you a call soon. Hope you are enjoying the warm weather, sun and beach for me!

Hello, Jones Family!

I'd say the theme of the trip is "puke" - but that's not very polite or delicate, is it?! SO glad you made it there safely, though! We continue to pray for your family, and for your ministry there in SC this summer. Looking forward to seeing you when you return!

Love,
